Assistance for Businesses Impacted by Hurricanes Ian & Nicole

Below is a list of federal, state, and local resources available to aid you and your employees during this critical time.  

We understand your level of stress, however, it is important to complete disaster assistance applications for your business and to share resources for individual assistance with your employees. Below are a few resources to get you started.

To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance, applicants should register at DisasterAssistance.gov.

 

Business Damage Assessment Survey: A required document for those applying for federal and state disaster assistance. The survey helps define the scope of damage/disruption on households and businesses.

Business Response & Recovery Programs: Federal

FEMA

Description: Disaster victims can obtain additional information and apply for disaster assistance through FEMA in various ways. A toll-free number has been established by FEMA for disaster victims to apply for certain types of disaster programs and obtain information about others. You can obtain information by calling. A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is currently operating due to Hurricane Ian. Residents impacted by Hurricane Nicole may also apply for assistance at the DRC at the Department of Health-Volusia, 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach. The DRC’s hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

SBA (U.S. Small Business Administration)

Small businesses and small agricultural cooperatives suffering a substantial economic injury may be eligible for an economic injury disaster loan of up to $1.5 million to meet necessary financial obligations – Bills the company would have paid if the disaster had not occurred. Physical Disaster Loans

SBA (U.S. Small Business Administration) Description: Businesses of all sizes may apply for a Physical Disaster Loan of up to $1.5 million to repair or replace damaged real estate, equipment, inventory and fixtures. IRS Excise Tax

Business Response & Recovery Programs: Florida

SBA Business Recovery Center Open in Sanford 

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is operating a Mobile Business Recovery Center (MBRC) in Sanford. Customer service representatives will assist Floridians with applying for SBA disaster loan assistance for losses due to Hurricane Ian that began Sept. 23.  The MBRC is at Sanford Information Center, 230 E. First St., Sanford. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Hurricane and Disaster Relief Worksite Agreement

Entities wanting to receive temporary workers during hurricanes and other disasters at no cost to their organization can contact Robin King, President/CEO of CareerSource Flagler Volusia (CSFV) for more information and to complete and execute a host worksite agreement. Positions are funded through Disaster Relief funds made available to CSFV through the U.S. Department of Labor. During hurricanes and other disasters, CSFV will coordinate with you to determine the types of workers needed and will be able to provide workers to organizations with executed agreements. Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan

The Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan program provides short-term, zero-interest working capital loans that are intended to “bridge the gap” between the time a disaster impacts a business and when a business has secured longer term recovery funding such as federally or commercially available loans, insurance claims or other resources.

Loans are available up to $50,000—at least $10 million of which must go to small businesses that are agricultural producers impacted by Hurricane Ian in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Monroe, Orange, Osceola, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, and Volusia counties.

Florida Short Time Compensation for Employers Program

Short-Time Compensation (STC) is a temporary alternative work style that will assist employers in keeping their workforce intact. The program permits prorated unemployment compensation benefits to employees whose work hours and earnings are reduced as part of an STC plan to avoid the total layoff of some employees.  Phone: (850) 921-3253 – Website: www.floridajobs.org

Florida Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Unemployment benefits for individuals unemployed as a result of the disaster that are not covered by regular state or private unemployment insurance. Applicants have 30 days to file after the disaster is announced. Phone: (800) 204-2418 – www.fluidnow.com
